  • December 9 Meeting & Holiday Gathering

Our final meeting of 2025 brought SBE Houston members together on December 9 at Escalante’s for a festive Holiday Gathering. The evening was filled with good food, great conversation, and plenty of holiday cheer.

A highlight of the night was Mike Thompson of LumenServe, who gave an engaging presentation on tower lighting. Members learned about LumenServe’s innovative Tower Lighting as a Service® (TLaaS®) program, which provides complete LED tower lighting systems along with installation, maintenance, 24/7 monitoring, and compliance support. Their full-service approach helps tower owners stay safe, efficient, and compliant without the hassle of managing it all themselves.

We want to give a special thanks to LumenServe for sponsoring the evening and sharing their expertise with our chapter.

It was a fun, educational, and festive night — a perfect way to celebrate the season with our SBE Houston family.

  • SBE Event Recap: Highway Marketing Road Show

Members of our chapter recently attended the Highway Marketing Road Show, a compact and engaging regional tradeshow that packed a lot into a single day. The event featured informative presentations by Shure, dBTechnologies USA, and datavideo, showcasing new technologies and solutions relevant to the broadcast and AV industries.

In addition to the sessions, several vendors were set up in the exhibit hall, offering hands-on demos and insights into their latest gear. From microphones to video production tools and speaker systems, there was a wide array of tech to explore.

The best part? They even fed us! Great food, great conversations, and a convenient location made this a very worthwhile outing. Kudos to Highway Marketing and all the participating manufacturers for putting on such a smooth and informative event.

  • Remembering the Senior Road Disaster

December 7th, 1943 will always be a date which will live in infamy as the United States was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor, and in the Houston Broadcasting community, it will be remembered as one of the worst disasters in our History. On its final day of construction, the Senior Road tower, which broadcasts multiple FM stations on one antenna, snapped at a weak point during the hoisting of the 2nd half of the antenna. Upon the snap, the antenna fell onto the guywires holding the tower and broken them upon impact, and therefore began a chain reaction as the 1971′ tower came crashing down. More devastating was the 5 men who were riding the antenna during its ascension and those on the tower lost their lives.
